Spanner In The Works

Spanner in the Works Jack Mancor

Gather ‘round people I got something to say
Some folks might think it’s just another cliché
But we got blood on our hands we got blood in the streets
We gotta get together and start singing for peace
I know sometimes that it might hurt
You gotta take a stand and throw a spanner in the works

I’ve seen it all so many times before
Rich man he comes knocking on your door
Fooled you into thinking you could own a house
Now he’s telling your family that they have to move out
You’re paying last weeks bills with next week’s wages
Don’t be waiting ‘round for no profits or saviors
‘cause the church owns most the land in this world
But there are still plenty of homeless boys and girls

And so on and on and on it goes my friends
But the wind still blows and the creeks ebb and flow ‘till the end
And where we’re headed their ain’t nobody knows my friend
But the tides ‘ill wash in and they’ll wash it all away again

We ain’t come to far from the days of the cave
Now we’re all just walkin’ talkin’ multi-national slaves
They charge us too much and pay us not enough
It’s getting to where it’s going and the goin’ ‘ill be tough
They smash the unions and the public schools
This countries run by bigots, bludges and fools
The squeeze on the poor is getting tighter
One mans terrorist is another’s freedom fighter

I know sometimes it might seem hard
But if we don’t learn from history we won’t get far
You got to stand to the devil and look him in the eye
Say, “Come on man, I’ll see you outside”
I know some times that it might hurt
But you gotta take a stand; throw a spanner in the works…
